      These are the participants who attended the Creative Regions Summer School (I edition) in Birmingham in 2010.

      Adrian Spirchez

      Adrian Spirchez is manager at the Romanian Cultural Institute (http://www.icr.ro/dgicrs), Romania's official organisation which promotes Romanian culture and civilisation worldwide. He has studied political science as an undergrad and holds an MA in Central and East European history, He has strong interest in understanding how arts can influence culture(s) or vice verse in certain regions that are confronted with certain economic rhythms of development. These are all new and rather sensitive issues in Romania and the region. He is interested in Cultural Management, creative arts, European Union - institutions and policies, Modern political thought, Intellectual history of Central and Eastern Europe. I collaborate with the Observatorul Cultural" (weekly magazine on politics and culture)  and the "Sfera Politicii" (monthly magazine of political science)

      Tunde Szabo

      Tunde Szabo is senior project manager at Studio Metropolitana Urban Research Centre. Studio Metropolitana as the urban development agency of the Municipality of Budapest runs a long term urban planning project of the Creative Metropolis Development Strategy. She graduated in 2000 at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest; MSc of Geography, Regional and Local Development. In 2008 graduation at the University of Groningen, MSc of Environmental and Infrastructure Planning (Master thesis: Discourse of Urban Politics in Budapest - Hidden power relations in urban planning). Professional experience at Transport for London and Mecca Environmental Agency Vienna. Internships: University of Leipzig, Germany and Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia. Languages: English, German, Dutch, Hungarian. Field of responsibility at Studio Metropolitana: leading projects on European Danube Region Strategy, Budapest European Metropolis Strategy, Budapest growth orientation study, Eleven Budapest (cultural programme of the Hungarian EU presidency in 2011), European Corridor 5 Cooperation, ESPON POLYCE project.       Ipek Cankaya

      Ipek Cankaya is a lecturer at the Department of Art Management in Yeditepe University, Istanbul-Turkey. Her MA thesis is called “Cities in the Globalized World: A View from the Cultural Perspective”. She currently teaches and investigates in the cultural area with a specific focus on the cultural production and consumption in contemporary Turkish scene, since the establishment of the Republic in the early twentieth century, with a keen interest in the developments of the cultural and creative industries.

      Janet Mein

      Janet Mein is Head of Arts Services at the Hampshire County Council. Jan began her career as a theatre practitioner in community and theatre in education and in arts centre management. From 1987 – 90 she was the General Manager of Lumière & Son Theatre Company. In 1990 she changed direction and has since worked in arts development and leading arts and heritage departments in Local Government in Worcester, Eastbourne and the Medway Towns.

      Pei-Ling Liao

      Pei-Ling Liao is a PhD Student at CURS, University of Birmingham. Her research interest is to explore when cities take cultural quarter and district approach in terms of urban regeneration and creative economy, to find out their interaction and how this district/quarter works for city being a creative city.

      Charles Freeman

      Charles Freeman is Quality Place Delivery Manager for Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH). PUSH is a grouping of 11 Local Authorities is the Southampton and Portsmouth functional economic area. The Partnership was formed in 2003, in order to support the economic development of the area. Charles supports the work of the PUSH Quality Place Delivery Pannel. The Pannels priorities include, Supporting work to enhance the regions cultural offer, promoting access and participation, the integration of cultural planning within spatial planning policy in the area, Supporting the development of the Creative Industries and Visitor Economy and Promoting Good Quality Design in the Built Environment. Prior to Joining PUSH Charles was Executive Director of Culture South East one of the 8 Regional Cultural Consortiums in England responsible for Embeding cultural policy in regional policy, supporting the Local Government Cultural improvement agenda, Embedding Cultural policy in the planning of Sustainable Community Growth Ares and Housing Renewal Pathfinders, Developing Regional Evidence bases to support cultural policy, and supporting the regional elements of the cultural olympiad

      Elina Kuzjukevica

      Elina Kuzjukevica is the coordinator of the creative industries cluster at Oslo Teknopol IKS - a regional innovation development agency (www.oslo.teknopol.no). Her work includes running of the Oslo Cultural Network - a group of stakeholders that work together to promote creative industries in Oslo region, put in place networking arenas and improve framework conditions and skills base within the creative industries. Elina's educational background is in economics and business (BSc from Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, MSc from the University of Manchester). Previous work experience is both in event management and EU funded projects. She has developed and managed in the start-up phase an INTERREG IVC funded project CREATIVE METROPOLES that looks at how cities can best support the development of creative industries (www.creativemetropoles.eu) . In 2009 she ran Riga EU Office in Brussels before relocating to Norway in early 2010.  

      Cristina Alaimo

      Cristina Alaimo is currently a first year PhD student within the Economic Geography research cluster at LSE. Her subject of research is mainly focused on the creative economy. Studying the innovation brought by the design production process within the Fashion Industry. Her research is aimed to understand the dynamic of innovation against creativity within the urban scenario. She has previous experiences as a researcher and as a professional in the cultural field and has published several articles and books in Italy on cultural management, creative workers, cultural districts and cultural policies

      Rebecca Horwood

      Rebecca Horwood is Project Officer for Yorkshire Cities (www.yorkshirecities.org.uk), a network of local authorities from Yorkshire and the Humber which focuses on urban and economic policy issues. She is responsible for the Culture & Creative Industries and Climate Change work areas. She has also recently completed an MA in Culture, Creativity and Entrepreneurship at the University of Leeds, focusing on cultural policy. Rebecca has a background in the visual arts and has extensive experience of partnership working and community engagement through a range of professional and voluntary roles.
